For design readers — architecture, interiors and objects shaped by travel, memory and the different meanings they acquire across cultures.
Openhouse is a biannual magazine about architecture, design, art and culture, centred on creative people and the spaces, objects and traditions that shape their way of life.
Published from Barcelona, it combines intimate interiors, architecture, travel and personal stories with a strong emphasis on identity, nature and material culture.
Issue 26: The Accent of Things explores the accents that objects carry — and the new voices they acquire as they travel, cross borders and become part of different lives. In France, Jörg Koziol brings together traditions and techniques from distant places, while in Belgium, Bea Mombaers surrounds herself with objects gathered from around the world and allows them to speak beyond their origins.
The issue also travels to China, where Hotel Xitan reinterprets ideas of community on a secluded hillside behind Beijing’s Tanzhe Temple, and to Mexico, where architect Mauricio Rocha gives form to his own architectural language through Casa Moro. Together, the stories look at how objects, spaces and traditions change meaning through movement, context and personal interpretation.
About Openhouse
Founded by Andrew Trotter and Mari Luz Vidal, Openhouse presents architecture and design through the people who inhabit, create and preserve distinctive places. Rather than focusing only on finished spaces, the magazine looks at the traditions, collections, food, art and ways of living that give those places their character. openhouse-magazine.com
