We multiplied our encounters with creatives who explore the intimate link between know-how and imagination, tradition and modernity, memory and movement. They all share the same quest: that of a craftsmanship that rejects the past in order to better anchor itself in the present and invent tomorrow.
Rediscovered as an avant-garde figure, Carlo Bugatti embodies this visionary craftsmanship, this fertile tension between past and modernity. Between a dreamlike Middle Ages and a foreshadowed futurism, his furniture-sculptures, both raw and refined, resonate today as manifestos of a "future past" and captivate collectors.
In her own way, Viennese pastry chef Sophia Stolz belongs to this same family of free spirits, transforming indulgence into performance. Her extravagant cakes, both baroque and conceptual, push the boundaries of the discipline to better reinvent it, because, as she says, "you have to understand tradition in order to oppose it. Otherwise, rebellion has no depth."
In a different vein, Alfie di Trolio crafts a universe in London that straddles the line between reality and imagination. Jorge Parra shares a similar taste for the marvelous, creating inhabited settings in his Palazzo d’Aranjuez where mythology, Spanish folklore, and couture intertwine.
