Magazine C is a chair documentary magazine that selects a plum icon chair and introduces a design and lifestyle centered on it.
It covers the lifestyle of designers, brands, manufacturers, collectors, and people sitting in the chair, with a huge influence on the related industries and the public's lives.
Stool 60, designed in 1933 by architect Alvar Aalto, is the archetype that you probably imagine when hearing the word “stool,” and it is a representative piece of Finnish furniture. From childhood, every person in Finland encounters this familiar chair in ordinary spaces, including nurseries, schools, libraries, and government offices. Stool 60 symbolizes the value of democratic design, functioning freely to adapt to every user and space.
Using solid Finnish birch to enhance durability, Aalto created the signature L-shaped legs with a bentwood technique, which also streamlined the stool’s production process. Its potential for a wide range of applications and mass production makes the Stool 60 the most “human” chair to come from the mind of this architect committed to making human-centered designs.
Building upon this timeless design, the sixth issue of Magazine C takes an in-depth look at the Stool 60—an object that is simple and ordinary, yet all the more extraordinary because of it. The issue sheds light on the life of architect Alvar Aalto, the designer of the Stool 60, as well as his representative works in both architecture and furniture design.
The magazine C is published in Grande Clip based on the Magazine B brand.
