Lodestars Anthology is an independent magazine-meets-journal for curious travellers who long to be inspired, see the world and meet interesting characters along the road. Focusing on one country per issue, Lodestars is a scrapbook of place, a magazine that goes deep into the heart of a location and uncovers its quirks, flavours and splendour, taking a truly personal, beautifully crafted and slow approach to the art of travel journalism.

With stunning photography, thoughtful and beautifully written stories, and original illustrations - produced in Bristol by a small independent press with an eye for detail and a love for print – Lodestars is a thing of beauty in its own right. You’ll probably want to keep it atop a coffee table, or perhaps you’ll want to fill it with scribblings and notes and stow it away in your travel bag for inspiration whilst on the road.

ABOUT THIS ISSUE

New Zealand (Aotearoa) is a land of myth, created, according to Māori lore, when the Polynesian Demi-God Māui cast a fishhook crafted from an ancestor’s jawbone off the canoe in which he had stowed himself away.

With this, he hauled from the ocean’s depths a giant fish, which became the North Island, its mountains and rivers carved out by his brothers impatient to devour the catch. The South Island is their canoe, with secluded Rakiura, found at what feels like the end of the earth, formed from its anchor stone. Today, with its sleeping volcanoes, mighty fjords, seemingly endless coastline and ability to make visitors feel deliciously small, New Zealand remains shrouded in a special kind of magic.

This updated and reimagined New Zealand (Aotearoa) issue will be out in January 2026, but is available to pre-order now.

Some featured destinations: Milford Sound, Rotorua, Taupō, Queenstown, Stewart Island, Northland, Bay of Islands, Hawke's Bay, Abel Tasman National Park, Mount Cook / Aoraki, Wellington, Marlborough Sounds & much, much more.
