Little White Lies – Issue 115: The Wild Horse Nine issue

Little White Lies is a British film magazine combining independent criticism, illustration and design with a strong focus on the craft of cinema.

Issue 115 is dedicated to Martin McDonagh’s Wild Horse Nine, a darkly comic story set against the political backdrop of 1970s Chile and Easter Island. John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell lead the film as two CIA operatives whose relationship gradually shifts from banter and companionship into something much darker.

The issue includes interviews with Malkovich, Rockwell, McDonagh and Mariana di Girolamo, alongside conversations with cinematographer Ben Davis, costume designer Eimer Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh and art director Denis Schnegg about the film’s visual world and production craft.

Further features look at JFK conspiracy films and literature, far-flung shooting locations, and the making of Laika’s Wildwood. The back section also includes interviews with Lee Chang-dong, Paweł Pawlikowski, Amanda Kramer and Beth de Araújo, plus reviews and festival reporting.
