Holiday Magazine – Number 398: The Canada Issue

Holiday is a Paris-based biannual travel and style magazine combining long-form reporting, photography and fashion through deeply researched portraits of places.

Number 398, “The Canada Issue”, travels across the country in search of its many different identities. Writer Madeleine Thien contributes a short story inspired by the Gaspé Peninsula, philosopher Mark Kingwell revisits the stereotype of Canadian niceness, and ethnobotanist Wade Davis considers our relationship with nature.

Elsewhere, the issue looks at First Nations heritage through the work of Emily Carr, Inuit cinema, Margaret Trudeau, Glenn Gould, Keanu Reeves, Agnes Martin, Daria Werbowy, Jeff Wall and Nunavut’s parka-making tradition, alongside a seven-day journey along the Sunshine Coast.

Photography ranges from Angelo Pennetta’s view of the Rockies and Olivier Kervern’s Quebec to Hill & Aubrey in Nunavut, Tom Johnson travelling through Ontario with Kirsten Owen and Alessandro Furchino Capria exploring the relationship between interiors and nature.

About Holiday
Originally published in the US from 1946 to 1977 and revived in Paris in 2014, Holiday combines travel writing, fashion and photography with the idea of sending writers and photographers into the field to build an intimate portrait of a destination.
